Studies
General Information
As a student of geography at Universität Hamburg, you can choose from a wide array of classes in general and regional geography. Additionally, classes in applied geography, such as urban, regional, and rural planning perspectives are also offered. Classes on subject methodology, such as geoinformatic systems and other methods of geographic studies, including digital remote sensing, statistics, and qualitative methods, complete the list of possible classes.
As of the winter semester 2006/2007, the old program with the German “Diplom” degree was replaced by Bachelor and Master majors. Furthermore, the Institute of Geography offers training in the subject of geography for teaching candidates. Geography is also offered as a minor with a wide variety of natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities majors, both for Bachelor and Master students.
Further information on enrolment formalities and matriculation procedures (in German: “Einschreibung”) can be found in the Universität Hamburg’s General Course Catalog (in German: “Allgemeines Vorlesungsverzeichnis”).
An orientation unit for new students is offered at the beginning of every winter semester.
