Sedimentology and Stratigraphy

We investigate carbonate and siliciclastic marine to marginal marine deposits. The focus lies on the understanding of sedimentary processes and sedimentary variations in the geological past in response to changes in climate, sea level, palaeoceanography and tectonics. With the developed stratigraphic and depositional models we contribute to basic research aspects but also to questions in applied geology (for example exploration and coastal protection).

- Facies and stratigraphy of carbonate platforms

- Dynamics of drift sediments

- Processes of coastal development

- Climate signals in sediments
