Digital map collections and portals
This is a compilation of different portals, which offer digital maps or geoscientific data. If you are not able to find what you are looking for, you can visit our library. Our collection of maps includes about 22.000 printed geological and topographical maps, which are partially registered in the Online-Catalogue.

Electronic archive of maps Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek Sachsen-Anhalt
This collection of the University and State Library Saxony-Anhalt contains about 1.000 digital maps and views with a regional focus on Central Germany.

Digital collections Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin
Digital maps of the Berlin State Library. The collection cotains about 160 maps and atlases.

IKAR - Printed maps before 1850
This is an initiative of the GBV for old maps. The database contains bibliographic records of printed maps up to 1850. There is also access to approximately 5.000 digital maps.

Münchener Digitalisierungszentrum (MDZ) Digital Library
The digital library "bavarica" is a project of the Munich Digitization Centre (MDZ). Amongst others it contains digital maps, city maps, views and atlases; predominantly old ones (up to 1900).

IEG Maps (Uni Mainz)
The Leibniz Institute of European History (IEG) in Mainz provides a portal for digital historical maps from 1378 with a focus on Germany, Europe and Thuringia.

Oldmaps online
This database stores over 400.000 maps. It is a portal of the Klokan Technologies GmbH (Switzerland). It contains collections of different libraries such as USGS Historical Topographic Maps, National Library of Scotland, New York Public Library, SLUB Dresden and more.

Historical maps Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Bremen
This project contains about 3.800 digital historic maps of the holding of the State and University Library Bremen. The focus are regional maps and general maps of Northwest Germany and different european countries, as well as european city maps.

zvdd (Zentrales Verzeichnis Digitalisierter Drucke)
An initiative of the Göttingen State and University Library, which not prioritizes maps but refers to about 4.000 digital maps.

Portal Digitales Brandenburg
This is a project of the University Library Potsdam. It currently contains about 30 maps of Brandenburg and Berlin. It also contains geological maps of Prussia. The maps are also visible in the GBV.

SLUB Dresden (Kartenforum)
Digital maps of State and University Library Dresden. It currently contains about 27.000 maps especially about the history and applied geography of Saxony. Furthermore the library works on a virtual map bulletin board, which currently can display over 5.600 maps.

Geoportals of the Federal State Offices
Geoportals enable the search of geodata (digital geographic data) and their representation in the form of interactive maps. There are no new complete direct digital maps, but the underlying information (geodata) can be searched and used.
