Humboldt fellow Fabio Francescangeli studies the ecology of benthic foraminifera of the Elbe estuary
12. August 2019, von Tom Jaeppinen
in April 2019, Dr. Fabio Francescangeli joined the micropaleontology group as a Humboldt fellow to study the ecology of benthic foraminifera of the Elbe estuary for the next two years. Fabio studied Earth Sciences at the University of Perugia where he became familiar with foraminifera as biostratigraphical and environmental bioindicators. In his PhD project at the University of Lille, he investigated the spatio-temporal distribution of benthic foraminifera in intertidal areas of Hauts-de-France with particular focus on environmental applications. In his current project at Hamburg University, Fabio will investigate the modern foraminiferal populations from the Elbe estuary and the abiotic key-factors influencing their distribution. He plans to develop and apply foraminiferal-based transfer functions to reconstruct regional relative paleo-sea level trends and other natural and anthropogenic environmental changes in the Elbe estuary and southeastern North Sea region. We are very happy to host Fabio at our institute and welcome all to get in contact with him.
