Application of biochar to arable soilsBiochar improves soil properties and binds atmospheric carbon
8 February 2021, by Christian Knoblauch
A recent study of Knoblauch et al. demonstrates that biochar produced from plant residues may be used to increase nutrient availability, crop yield and reduce the mobility of toxic trace elements in agricultural soils. Since biochar is only slowly decomposed to CO2 it contributes to the removal of CO2 from the atmosphere and the increase of soil organic carbon stocks. The study was published in the European Journal of Soil Science and may be found here.
