Post/colonial Geo-graphics │ how the world emerges from maps and images
Maps and images shape our ideas of the world. What they depict, we usually understand as true and existent. But their forms of representation have changed in the course of history, because they have always been a mirror of the respective political and social discourses.
Maps and images are not images of reality. They are made and often reproduce post-colonial orders of the world. But who or what is behind these images and maps? And which stories of the world do they tell and which do they not?
Through six different keyholes, this exhibition provides a critical insight into how Hamburg geographers* have been producing the world through maps and images since the 19th century, how these worldviews have changed again and again, and what consequences this has had and still has in various areas of society, teaching and research.
