Greenhouse Gas Measurements at the TEE Area

On three occasions in spring and summer (May, July, August), the work group "soils in the climate system" (AG Kutzbach) conducted diurnal chamber measurement campaigns. As part of the research and development project “Measurement of Climate-Damaging Gases” (EkG) concluded with Deutsche Einheit Fernstraßenplanungs- und -bau GmbH (DEGES), greenhouse gas measurements were carried out at selected locations on a peat conservation and development area (TEE area) developed as part of the construction work on the A26 West. The three measurment campaings were carried out each over a 24-hour period using a three-shift system. Despite some difficult weather conditions and logistical challenges—particularly during night work—the dynamics of the greenhouse gases CO₂, CH₄, and N₂O were fully recorded throughout the period.
The collected dataset is of great value; it contributes significantly to improve existing models for greenhouse gas balances of the area. In addition, this dataset is also used as basis for a thesis that is currently being written.
