Simran Sekhri from the Institute of Soil Science, Universität Hamburg, has been awarded the best 2025 CABI & EUROSOIL Soil Science Case Study. Her case study, “Investigating Soil Water Dynamics to Improve Agriculture: Namibian Land-Use Systems Under Drought”, explores how conservation agriculture practices influence soil water balance and resilience in semi-arid farming systems.
The work provides rare field-based evidence from Northern Namibia and shows how sustainable practices, such as reduced tillage and mulching, can improve water retention in sandy soils. By working closely with smallholder farmers, the study emphasizes how scientific research can be translated into real-world strategies that strengthen drought resilience and support climate-smart agriculture. The case study will be published with CABI later this year.
