Application & Deadlines

For the timing of an Erasmus stay, we recommend that Bachelor’s students plan their departure from the 3rd semester onwards, and Master’s students from the 2nd semester onwards.

Applications can be submitted exclusively via the Erasmus portal Mobility Online. All documents must also be uploaded to the portal. The link to the portal you will find on the  website by the international office: Study Abroad with ERASMUS+. The selection process is carried out by the Department of Geography.

Erasmus-places for the winter semester 2027/28 and the summer semester 2028

  • Application deadline: 31 January 2027 
  • Apply via the Erasmus portal (access link here)
  • A consultation meeting with the programme coordinator is recommended.

Please hand in your application with the following documents:

  • Online application in Mobility Online
  • Current certificate of enrolment
  • Curriculum Vitae, including (if applicable) a description of social and academic engagement
  • Motivation letter (approx. one page) including a description and justification of your proposed study abroad semester (with reference to your first-choice option)
  • Academic records (STiNE printout)
  • Preliminary learning agreement covering 24 ECTS per semester
  • Language certificate for the language of instruction: in most cases, a minimum level of B2 (sometimes B1) is required at the time of starting the Erasmus stay. For the application, you should already have reached at least A2. In addition, you must submit a written declaration confirming that you will complete the necessary language courses prior to achieving the required level. A certificate from the UHH Language Centre is sufficient
  • 1 passport photo (as an additional document)

Selection criteria (in the following order):

  • Achievement of the required language level (typically B1/B2) by the time of the Erasmus stay
  • Motivation, including clear justification for the choice of university and study location in relation to your own academic programme
  •  Academic qualifications and previous performance
