Expedition in the Ionian Sea with RV METEOR
2 January 2018, by Fachbereich Geowissenschaften
Dolomite, well-known from the Dolomite mountains in northern Italy, is a mineral that occurs world-wide. However, its formation is still enigmatic and controversy debated. Scientific drilling in the course of the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) is the only way do specify its formation. In order to provide the necessary pre-site survey data a group of scientists from the Hamburg Institute of Geophysics conducts a marine geophysical survey in the Ionian Sea. The expedition starts in Catania/Sicily and ends in Mindelo/Capeverde on February 11th.
