27 September 2021, by chu
The Institute of Geophysics, in cooperation with the University of Athens, is conducting a marine seismic survey along the northern coast of the islands of Samos and Ikaria in the eastern Aegean Sea. The causes and consequences of the earthquake of October 30, 2020, which triggered a tsunami about 14 kilometers north of Samos, are being investigated. More than 1000 people were injured and more than 100 people lost their lives. The ship expedition is accompanied by biologists from the ARCHIPELAGOS Institute of Marine Conservation, who are investigating, among other things, the influence of the measurements on marine mammals.
