Japan Excursion of the MSc Geophysics

A two-week Japan excursion starts today with seven MSc Geophysics students, two PhD students and two Senior Scientists. The trip will first go to Kyoto, where the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences and the Disaster Prevention Research Institute (DPRI) will be visited. In addition, a one-day workshop for scientific exchange between students of Kyoto University and the University of Hamburg will take place there. In Tokyo, the DAAD and the Earthquake Research Institute of the University of Tokyo will be visited. Afterwards, the trip will go to Sakurajima Volcano in southern Japan, where, in addition to a scientific exchange with the members of the Sakurajima Volcano Research Center of DPRI, various stations at the volcano will be visited and maintained/rebuilt. In addition, the deposits from the largest eruption of the last century, the 1914 Taisho eruption, will be viewed.
