Seismic Modelling Animations
The links below point to animations of numerical seismic forward modelling.
Seismic forward modelling serves as an approximate solution of the equations
of motion of dynamic elasticity in the case of complex subsurface structures.
Closed form analytical solutions do exist only for simple geometries.
The modelling algorithms are based on spatial and temporal discretization
of the equations of motion. This leads to a numerical grid on which the wave
field and the material properties are defined.
The spatial partial derivatives were calculated in the wave number domain
with high accuracy using fast Fourier transforms (FFT). Further details of
the algorithms can be found in the respective references.
